Sarasota Director of Community Affairs Evan Keats confirmed the incident taking place to the Tampa Bay Times. However, he did not disclose the names of the people involved.

The 2024 season will be Brian Battie’s fifth year in college football. He spent the first three years with his local South Florida Bulls team, where he was considered a top prospect. In 2023, he entered the transfer portal and signed with the Auburn Tigers.

During his first season with the Tigers, the 22-year-old recorded 51 rushes for 227 yards, which is 4.5 yards per carry. Additionally, he caught seven passes for 52 yards. He rushed for 332 yards and one touchdown on 46 carries as a freshman and for 324 yards and one touchdown during his sophomore season for the Bulls.

Battie may have honed his skills as a running back, but he is also a great kick returner. He was named a first-team All-American return specialist by the Football Writers Association. Sporting News picked him for their second-team selection after he returned 20 kickoffs for 650 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers.

However, his breakout year came during his last season with the Bulls in 2022. Brian Battie contributed 176 rushes for 1186 yards, which is 6.7 yards per attempt, scoring eight rushing touchdowns. He further added 14 receptions for 227 yards.
