Boise police fatally shoot man during downtown standoff: Ada County Coroner identifies the deceased
BOISE, Idaho — The Ada County Coroner has identified a man who was shot to death by Boise Police after responding to reports of an active shooting in the downtown area.
28-year-old Macey Juker was reportedly firing a weapon near the area of 20th St. and Washington St. near downtown Boise on Wednesday night. Responding officers attempted to take Juker into custody when he apparently turned his weapon on the officers, according to police.
Six responding officers exchanged gunfire with Juker, when he was hit and ultimately pronounced dead at the scene by Ada County Paramedics. Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar commented on the increasing incidents in the Boise area of people being willing to engage officers in violent situations;
We are seeing an increase in the frequency with which our officers are encountering people willing to use force and weapons against our officers. Officers Wednesday night encountered a subject firing a rifle in a neighborhood and when they tried to stop him, he turned the rifle on them. All too often our officers are put in situations where they have to risk their lives and courageously make decisions to protect the community,” said Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar. “This was a difficult situation for our officers, and understandably a scary and traumatic experience for those who live in the area. Our condolences go out to Mr. Juker’s loved ones.The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force led by the Garden City Police Department is investigating the incident.
