Publish date: 2024-07-07

Eden Gardens is the iconic stadium of India, which is situated in Kolkata and is under the control of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). The stadium was built in 1864, making it the oldest stadium in India. Currently, Eden Gardens is the second-largest cricket stadium in India after the recently built Narendra Modi Stadium, and the third-largest in the world. One of the most recognisable cricket stadiums in the world is without a doubt the Eden Gardens. It has been referred to as “cricket’s response to the Coliseum.” For the majority of international cricketers, it has almost become a place of pilgrimage because of its reputation for hosting the most fervent and vocal crowd. The location hosted India’s first-ever day/night Test match against Bangladesh on November 22, 2019, as part of the second Test of the series.

Eden Gardens Seating Capacity

The Eden Gardens has a seating capacity of 66,000 to 68,000. However, the stadium has undergone multiple reconstructions and the seating capacities frequently changed. The Eden Gardens was initially planned for 40,000 people but the first reconstruction occurred in 1987, which expanded the seating capacities to 94,000. However, in 2011, the stadium went under another reconstruction and was reduced to the current number of seats.
