Hands of Hope NW to host PPE drive Saturday at BSU Albertsons stadium

Publish date: 2024-07-12

UPDATE:The PPE drive set for this Saturday is still on at Albertsons stadium despite Gov. Little's stay at home order. The Central Health District has designated the drive as an "essential" business.

------------------------------------------------

Hands of Hope NW in partnership with Senator Maryanne Jordan, Senator Cherie Buckner-Webb, and House of Representatives hopeful Chris Mathias will be hosting a personal protective equipment (PPE) drive on Saturday, March 28.

The drive will be held in the east lot of Albertsons stadium on the BSU campus from noon through 4 p.m.

Hands of Hope NW is a nonprofit organization which provides medical supplies and equipment to the underserved. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there is a critical shortage of PPE at hospitals across the country.

As a result, Idaho medical professionals may soon be asked to work without proper protective equipment, and/or to reuse masks and gloves, putting themselves and their patients at risk.

People are encouraged to donate PPE such as masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, bleach products and more in order to help health care workers in Idaho protect themselves, and their patients, in the fight against COVID-19.

To keep everyone safe, no gathering will be allowed and volunteers receiving donations will be wearing masks and gloves. Hands of Hope NW is asking that people simply drive through to donate the following supplies:

Donations are anticipated to come from private citizens, tattoo shops, nail salons, hair salons, elective surgery clinics, spray tanning clinics, construction/trades groups, veterinary clinics, dental clinics, pool cleaners, landscape companies, exterminators, home health care/hospice care, dialysis patients, and even college/high/middle school laboratories.

All supplies received at Saturday's drive (and thereafter at Hands of Hope NW) will be distributed among health care providers in Idaho who are on the front lines of the fight against the spread of COVID-19. Tax donation receipts will be provided to any individual or business owner who is able to bring an itemized list of donated items.
