Khamzat Chimaev extended a hand of friendship to the Kazakhs on Instagram, following intense beef between him and Shavkat Rakhmanov. The two fighters have been going back and forth with each other for quite some time now and recently Rakhmanov underwent criticism on the internet for sharing a controversial video.

The two fighters have a record of 12-0 (Khamzat Chimaev) and 17-0 (Shavkat Rakhmanov) and each of them competes in the welterweight division in the UFC and is undefeated in their weight class. Khamzat Chimaev’s move from welterweight to middleweight has been widely rumored, with Chimaev even challenging former reigning middleweight champions Alex Pereira and Robert Whittaker.

But that didn’t stop the two from throwing shade at each other on social media. The cold war went on for over a year until Shavkat Rakhmanov recently shared a controversial video, which he was tagged in, on his Instagram story. He later deleted the video, but the internet blasted him for insensitivity and irresponsibility.

Khamzat Chimaev seems to have taken this opportunity to turn the favors toward him. “Chechens and Kazakhs have always been brothers,…” began the caption. “…wish you all health happiness love prosperity,…” Chimaev wished every Kazakh health and prosperity on the holy month of Ramadan and declared that he would soon visit the country.

Shavkat Rakhmanov’s Instagram story about Khamzat Chimaev invited severe criticism

Their feud may have even begun on social media last year when Khamzat commented on social media under a caption that read, “Shavkat Rakhmanov not impressed with Khamzat Chimaev’s skills.” Khamzat commented on that post saying “Who’s that chump?!?”. He later deleted that comment.

“Let him say it to my face, not in comments…,” Rakhmanov responded when he was asked about the statements. The feud carried on into 2023 with Rakhmanov, making several hits on social media hinting at Chimaev. Borz, which means “wolf” in Chechen, is Khamzat’s nickname. Shavkat has used this information on social media numerous times to refer to Chimaev while directly or indirectly targeting him.

Recently in his Instagram story, where he was tagged, he posted a video of a man cradling a dead wolf. The wolf has a special meaning in Chechen culture. They are often mentioned in songs, stories, and legends in the Chechen culture and are a symbol of endurance and courage. Someone else killed the wolf, not Rakhmonov, but fans feel it was an allusion to his Chechen rival. The video invoked a lot of criticism on social relating to animal abuse.
